DBA in Sustainable Development and Philanthropy

Audencia DBA and the China Global Philanthropy Institute (CGPI) partnership

Audencia welcomed the first cohort to the DBA in Social Responsibility & Strategic Philanthropy on 22nd May 2020. The programme has been developed in partnership with the China Global Philanthropy Institute (CGPI) based in Beijing. CGPI is an important new partner for Audencia as its focus on responsibility and philanthropy aligns with Audencia’s academic expertise in corporate social responsibility and sustainability. CGPI was founded “to establish an education system that will cultivate exemplary philanthropists and executive philanthropists…making a contribution to the development of philanthropy in China and the world”.

The DBA programme Director at CGPI is Professor Hao Tang and at Audencia Professor Rhona Johnsen.

Programme

The 3-year DBA programme is attractive to Chinese participants with a Master qualification and an entrepreneurial or philanthropic background in their career who wish to study for a doctorate with a relevant academic and practical emphasis for their interests. Courses delivered by CGPI and Audencia faculty, are held at the ultra-modern CGPI base in Beijing or at Shenzhen Audencia Business School.

Courses

The teaching of courses is shared between the CGPI and Audencia, with each partner delivering courses in their core areas of expertise. DBA participants take part in a learning trip to France as part of the DBA programme. Courses on research methodology and business and management research themes prepare participants to develop an initial research proposal during the first year of the programme. The courses support DBA candidates in developing their doctoral thesis and in choosing the right career evolution following their DBA studies. DBA participants develop a thesis that investigates an important business problem that is of strategic importance to their own organization or sector. Participants frame the topic of their research under the guidance and advice of their Audencia and CGPI supervisors.

Professor Rhona Johnsen the Audencia DBA Programme Director commented:

“Audencia is delighted to see the DBA in Sustainable Development and Philanthropy come to fruition through the partnership with the China Global Philanthropy Institute (CGPI). We have an excellent relationship through our shared themes and interests and our passion to support the new doctoral candidates on their doctoral journeys. We look forward to working closely with CGPI to cultivate global responsible leaders of the future”.
